Point Park women's golf wins CMU Spring Invite #1

VERONA, Pa. -- Playing The Longue Vue Club for the Carnegie Mellon University Spring Invite No. 1, the Point Park University women's golf team placed first of three schools for the team title on Saturday. Individually, Point Park junior Joey Walz took second place with an 81.

It was a three-team event with the Pioneers posting a team score of 367 to beat Clarion University by 30 strokes at 397. Grove City College was third with a 506.

Host school Carnegie Mellon did not have a team entered, but it did have an individual entry take medalist honors. That was May Wang with a 79 for a two-shot win over Walz. Point Park's Olivia Stawovy was third with an 89, and the Pioneers also had Lindsey Swanson in fifth with a 95.

Sydney Schaffer rounded out the Pioneers' team score at 102, and Megan Locke was the fifth player at 116.

Saturday's round was a separate event from Sunday's competition at The Longue Vue Club, which will be a brand-new tournament and designated as the CMU Spring Invite No. 2. Point Park will be there once again with a tee time scheduled for 1:15 p.m.
