KOKOMO, Ind. -- Point Park University women's soccer shook off deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to win at Indiana University Kokomo, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers (5-2, 5-1 RSC) were down a goal at the break, but Taylor Goldstrohm scored twice in the second half to win.
With the victory, Point Park completed a 2-0 weekend road trip, which started with Thursday night's 1-0 win at IU East. The Pioneers moved into a tie for first place in the River States Conference with Rio Grande (Ohio) as both teams are 5-1 RSC entering the RedStorm's game on Saturday night.
Point Park fell behind IU Kokomo (3-6-1, 2-3-1 RSC) when Keely Hoopingarner scored in the fourth minute. It was the first of two goals for her, and the second one gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead in the 34th minute.
The field was titled in favor of IU Kokomo the first 45 minutes as the Cougars had an 8-2 advantage in shots. Point Park managed a goal from Shayna Augusma in the 30th minute to tie things up at 1-1. Kylee Bobak provided the assist, the first of two helpers for her on the day.
The second half was very defensive with few chances on either side. Point Park had just two shots in the second, and they went for Goldstrohm's two tallies. The Pioneers made the most of their shots as they scored on three of their four total drives. IU Kokomo had just three shots after halftime and finished with an 11-4 lead in that department.
In the 58th minute, Goldstrohm tied things up after taking an assist from Bobak. That gave Bobak at least one assist in six straight games, and she leads the Pioneers with seven overall.
A little over three minutes later, Goldstrohm pushed through an unassisted marker for the win. The Pioneers kept their second-half shutout alive for the remaining 30 minutes to win.
Ella Serlin got another victory in goal with two saves in 90 minutes. Bailey Boyd and Britney Adrian held down the middle of the defense with Bobak and Calista Hynes also making up the defensive unit.
Point Park's next game is Thursday, Oct. 22 versus WVU Tech. The Pioneers are now 4-1 on the road and 4-0 in RSC road games. They play three of their final four regular season games -- all within conference play -- at home.
