RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- Point Park University men's basketball is playing for a spot in the NAIA National Championship when it faces University of Rio Grande (Ohio) in the RSC Men's Basketball Championship Semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 27. Tipoff is 5:00 p.m. in Rio Grande, Ohio, with the winner locking up a bid to nationals.

The Pioneers (8-8) are 8-3 so far in the year 2021 and look to keep the momentum going at Rio Grande (15-8). It's the second meeting of the year between the teams with the only previous matchup being Point Park's 77-74 OT victory on Jan. 30. The Pioneers erased a 10-point deficit in the final minutes of regulation and won in the extra period.

Point Park is playing in the conference semifinals for the first time since 2015-16. The Pioneers are looking for their first finals appearance since the 2014-15 season. Should they get the win on Saturday, the Pioneers are guaranteed a nationals spot as the RSC champ and runner-up will both qualify this year. Point Park is looking to end a 14-year drought at the NAIA tournament.

Point Park made the semifinals with Wednesday's 71-70 victory at Asbury (Ky.). Rio Grande, which has already won two playoff games, won at Midway (Ky.), 58-55, despite being down a couple of key starters. Miki Tadic (17.4 ppg) and Shiloah Blevins (16.7 ppg) did not play in that game.

Point Park's stats are not as lofty with a fourth of its schedule coming versus NCAA Division I opponents. But the Pioneers have guard Sherron Schifino (14.0 ppg) and forward Garret McHenry (10.0 ppg) averaging double digits and point guard Jesse Calloway (9.6 ppg) and forward Tony James (9.0 ppg) just under. Doug Alves has started the last two games.
