Christian Negron (2-0) stayed undefeated for his career by throwing six shutout innings. He gave up just one hit while striking out six and walking one.
That was more than enough for Point Park's offense, which made the most of its seven hits. Luis Mujica hit a three-run homer to make the score 9-0 after the top of the third. Earlier, the Pioneers had scored four in the first and two in the second.
Although Point Park's bats did become quieter in the later innings, Negron and reliever Easton Klein had things locked down. Klein came in to work a 1-2-3 seventh to finishing things off.
Jouseph Renovales was 2 for 3 with a triple to lead the hit tally.
POINT PARK 15, TRINITY BAPTIST 0
The Pioneers needed only two scoring innings to win the nightcap by a wide margin. Point Park broke a 0-0 tie with seven runs in the fourth inning, and they added eight more in the sixth.
Antonio Carrillo's two-run homer was the big smash in the fourth. The rally started with Edwin De La Rosa's two-run single, Dylan Winseck's RBI base hit and Luis Mujica's sacrifice fly. The inning was capped off when consecutive singles by Ed Pfluger and Ty Andrews led to a run.
Pfluger was at it again in the sixth with a pair of RBI doubles in the same inning. In between, Roberto Mejia, Jr., Luis Mujica and Jouseph Renovales all delivered run-scoring base hits as the Pioneers batted around.
Jonathan Pacheco started and went 6.0 shutout innings. He allowed three hits and two walks, both of which were in the first inning. Pacheco punched out seven batters. Easton Klein struck out the side in order in the seventh. He retired all six batters he faced on the day.
