Box Score

OWENSBORO, Ky. -- No. 25-ranked Point Park University put up 20 runs and had both starting pitchers throw seven strong innings on Friday, and it added up to a doubleheader sweep at Brescia (Ky.) University. The Pioneers won by scores of 10-3 and 10-1 to take the first two games of the River States Conference series. The opening weekend of conference play concludes with a single game Saturday at 12 p.m. CT.

Point Park's 20 runs came on 23 hits, and the Pioneers also hit three home runs and stole five bases throughout the day. The Pioneers are 8-4 overall, 2-0 RSC heading into Saturday.

POINT PARK 10, BRESCIA 3
The Pioneers were up 1-0 before they broke the first game open with six runs in the sixth inning. The big blow was Jordon Campbell's grand slam, his second slam in a span of three games.

Ed Pfluger was another hitting leader going 2 for 4 with a two-run homer in the ninth and an RBI double in the first. Luis Hernandez was 3 for 5 with a double and like Pfluger, he scored two runs.

Before Campbell's homer in the sixth, Luis Mujica and Danilo Leon had each driven in a run with a base hit. The Pioneers had 13 hits as a team.

Easton Klein started and pitched 7.0 innings for the win. Klein (3-1) had to protect the 1-0 lead for most of his outing, and he did just that. Brescia didn't score until the sixth. Klein gave up eight hits but struck out eight and walked just one.

Javier Cardoso and Ramon Medina closed out the game throwing 1.0 inning each.

POINT PARK 10, BRESCIA 1
The Pioneers needed only seven innings this time to put up another 10 runs as they won the nightcap, which was scheduled for seven. Point Park had 10 hits, incuding a three-run homer from Jared Campbell for a 3-0 lead in the second.

Jared Campbell had to match his twin brother with a homer of his own, and he finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs, a walk and a sacrifice bunt. Jordon Campbell was also a thorn in Brescia's side going 1 for 2 with three runs, two walks, a stolen base and an RBI.

Luis Hernandez drove in a pair runs -- first with an RBI single in the fourth and then with a sacrifice fly to make the score 6-1 in the sixth. The Pioneers added four runs in the top of the seventh with a bases-loaded walk to Jordon Campbell, a base hit by Jared Campbell and an error that scored two runs.

Gianmarco Marcelletti was 2 for 3. Isaac Santana had an RBI double early in the game for a 4-0 lead.

Joathan Rivera (2-0) did not give up an earned run in a complete-game win. The right-hander gave up only five hits, struck out six and walked one. He did not give up more than two hits in any inning.
