PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University women's basketball gave the scoreboard a workout with its wins on Friday and Saturday night. The Pioneers improved to 3-0 on the young season with victories of 121-19 over Fisher (Mass.) and 110-43 over PSU-Schuylkill, a couple of NAIA opponents from the northeast.

The 102-point victory over Fisher (0-1) set program records for largest margin of victory and fewest points allowed. Both of those go back to the first year of Pioneers women's basketball in 1978-79. The Pioneers also pushed the limits with 17 made 3-pointers.

Point Park raced out to a lead of 31-8 at the end of the first quarter. Point Park had a 50-point lead of 65-15 at the break before allowing only one made basket the entire second half. Fisher was held without a field goal in the third quarter when Point Park outscored the Falcons, 30-2.

When the dust settled on the record-setting performance, the Pioneers had 10 different players score and seven different players hit a 3-pointer. Other big numbers were a 48-8 difference in turnovers and 55-36 on the boards. Point Park totaled 36 steals on the night.

No starter played more than 23 minutes. Gillian Piccolino's 20 points were a game-high, and those came in only 16 minutes. She had seven steals, four made 3-pointers and four assists. Ari Bleda was right behind with 18 points in 19 minutes. She made 6 of 7 from the field and 4 of 5 from deep while also picking up seven rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Emma Pavelek made it three starters in double digits with 16 points on 8 for 11 from the field. Coral Homs put up 17 points and eight rebounds off the bench. She made a couple of treys as well. Isabella Pelaia chipped in 15 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three treys.

The Pioneers picked up right where they left for a 110-43 dismantling of PSU-Schuylkill on Saturday night. Point Park was up 52-22 at the half with Emma Pavelek getting a 3-pointer right before the buzzer. The offense kept coming with another 58 points afer halftime.

Point Park shot 60 percent in each of the middle two quarters and 51 percent for the game. The Pioneers made another 14 treys and forced 31 turnovers. Rebounds were again big in the Pioneers' favor at 52-27.

The Pioneers had 56 points off the bench, which outscored the entire PSU-Schuylkill team. Isabella Pelaia stayed hot with 15 points on 6 for 8 overall and 3 for 5 from deep to lead the bench scoring. Aichata Ballo joined that effort with 12 points, seven assists and five steals. Coral Homs had a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards as a reserve.

Ari Bleda put up a double-double of her own with 16 points and 11 rebounds as did fellow starter Gabriella Legister with 12 and 11. A putback by Legister followed by two treys in a row from Pelaia put the score at 96-40. Moments later, Homs broke out for a fast-break layup as the Pioneers were up 100-40.

Point Park finishes out the homestand on Monday at 11 a.m. with a home matchup versus Michigan-Dearborn (1-0). The Wolverines, along with PSU-Schuylkill, are in a three-team classic being hosted by Point Park. Michigan-Dearborn scored a 60-44 win over PSU-Schuylkill on Sunday.
