(RV) Point Park pulls away for 95-61 win over Cleary, is 12-0 at Christmas

| Box Score 2

PITTSBURGH -- (RV) Point Park University men's basketball will be 12-0 at Christmas after a 95-61 victory over visiting Cleary (Mich.) University on Tuesday from CCAC-Allegheny. It's the latest in the year the Pioneers have been unbeaten since they were 21-0 in the 2006-07 season to reach as high as No. 3 in the national rankings.

Point Park (12-0, 3-0 RSC) overcome a slow start to take a 44-29 halftime lead over Cleary (0-11). The Pioneers came out stronger at the start of the second half with an extended run of 48-19. That lasted all the way to the under 5:00 media timeout of the second half, which put the Pioneers ahead, 92-48. The starters came out at that point with the Pioneers having 11 players see action in the game.

Jalen Stamps and Jamisen Smith had a flurry of 3-pointers as the former high school teammates combined for 12 treys. Stamps had 25 points on 7 for 14 from the arc while Smith had 19 points on 5 for 7 from deep. That busted the Cougars zone and stretched the lead.

Jo Valrie scored all 12 of his points in the first half. He rested the final 12 minutes of the game. Nathaniel Van stepped up with 12 points, of which nine came after halftime. Jags Jhawar also came alive in the second half to finish with nine points and 12 rebounds. Nazareth Fisher also got involved down low with six points and nine boards, most of which came in the second half.

Jordan Stowe contributed an all-around game of seven points, nine rebounds and a team-high six assists. The Pioneers had 21 assists with Stamps dishing five and Smith four as Point Park was finding open shooters and the bigs down low for easy looks. Point Park shot 51 percent for the game, which was picked up by making 61 percent overall (20 for 33) and 56 percent from the arc (9 for 16) in the second half.

Point Park has one more game in 2023, which is an NAIA matchup at home versus Northwestern Ohio on Dec. 30. Tipoff is 3:00 p.m. at CCAC-Allegheny. The Pioneers pick back up with River States Conference play with a road trip to Midway (Ky.) and IU Southeast on Jan. 4 and 6. The Pioneers are currently "receiving votes" in the NAIA Top 25 Poll at No. 26 overall in the country and lead the RSC East Division at 3-0 RSC.
