Box Score 2 MIDWAY, Ky. -- After seven complete weeks of River States Conference play, Point Park University baseball stands at 26-11 overall and 16-5 RSC.
The Pioneers find themselves with that record after dropping the third and final game of this past weekend's series at Midway (Ky.) University by a score of 12-8 on Saturday. That gave the series to the Eagles, 2-1.
Point Park and Midway now have the same conference record and are tied atop the conference standings with two weeks to go. That's with IU Southeast (15-6 RSC) just one game back of first place and this weekend's opponent IU Kokomo (13-8 RSC) three games back.
The Pioneers scored seven runs in the top of the eighth inning in the series finale at Midway but had their comeback fall short. That pulled the Pioneers within 10-8. Midway had earlier leads of 8-1 and 10-1.
The big inning had Luis Gonzalez get things started with a three-run homer. Carlos Burroughs launched a two-run homer just two batters later, and Jared Campbell had a two-run homer of his own later in the inning to close out rally.
Midway scored a couple of insurance runs in the bottom half to put the game away.
Jared Campbell was 2 for 5 with a double and a homer. Burroughs finished 2 for 4 with two homers and three RBIs.
Dylan Burton pitched 5.0 innings as the Midway starter to get the win. He struck out eight and walked four but gave up just one run on three hits. The Midway bullpen covered the last 4.0 innings to hold off the Pioneers.
Point Park used five pitchers with Sebastian Rodriguez steading things out the sixth and seventh innings to allow Point Park to get within 10-8.
The Pioneers move on to face Bryant & Stratton-Albany on Tuesday, April 18 for a 1:00 p.m. douleheader at Wild Things Park in Washington, Pa. Point Park is scheduled to play PSU-Beaver on Wednesday, April 19 at Point Park Field at Green Tree Park.
