Box Score

OWENSBORO, Ky. -- (RV) Point Park University men's basketball pulled away from Brescia (Ky.) University for a 94-68 win on Saturday. The River States Conference road victory puts the Pioneers at 16-1 overall and 6-1 RSC.

Already ahead by 14 points at the half, 43-29, Point Park scored 51 points, shot 56 percent from the field and made 8 of 16 3-pointers in the second half to put the game away.

With 16 wins on the season, the Pioneers are tied with four other teams for the most victories in NAIA men's basketball. No. 1 Grace (16-1), No. 12 Cumberlands (Ky.) (16-1), (RV) Tennessee Southern (16-2) and No. 25 Florida College (16-4) also have 16 wins. Point Park is currenlty "receiving votes" in the NAIA Top 25 Poll.

Point Park had three players over 20 points, and point guard Jalen Stamps flirted with a triple-double with 20 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. The 10 assists were the most for him in a Point Park uniform since he transferred in last year.

Jo Valrie had a team-high 25 points along with nine rebounds. Jamisen Smith scored 22 points -- the fifth time in the last seven games he's been above 20 -- and was 5 for 8 from beyond the arc.

Point Park's 7-foot-2 center Jags Jhawar made good on 5 for 5 from the field and made four free throws for 14 points. He also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked five shots.

The second half included Stamps and Smith both making 3 of 5 from the outside. Valrie added two treys as the Pioneers poured it on.

Stamps had seven assists in the second half alone as he and Smith combined for 10 helpers after halftime. Jhawar and 6-10 backup center Nazareth Fisher the main beneficiaries. Those two threw down multiple dunks off nice passes from the guards. Fisher finished with seven points and eight rebounds.

Valrie scored seven of Point Park's first nine points of the second half. He had three layups off assists from Smith, Jhawar and Stamps with the middle one being a 3-point play. That run had the Pioneers ahead, 52-36, just 2:28 after the break.

Fisher threw down a dunk after some connecting passes from Stamps and Smith to make the score 71-46 midway through the half. Stamps later nailed an outside jumper for an 80-51 lead.

Stamps setup Jhawar for a dunk and then made a trey for a 94-65 advantage. That was with 2:08 remaining.

Point Park returns home to play Bryant & Stratton-Rochester in an MLK Day home game on Monday, Jan. 15. Tipoff is 3:00 p.m. at CCAC-Allegheny.
