PITTSBURGH – The No. 2 Charleston men's soccer team picked up a 3-0 win over Point Park on Wednesday evening at Highmark Stadium.
The Golden Eagles got on the board in the seventh minute with an unassisted goal by Joao Belmudes. With under two minutes remaining in the first half, Paul Hoste scored with an assist from Jack Kay and Tristen Rose to send Charleston to the locker room with a 2-0 advantage.
Charleston wrapped up the scoring in the 69
th minute with a goal by Caio Moraes. Belmudes assisted on the goal to finish the afternoon with three points.
Charleston held a big advantage in the offensive zone, outshooting Point Park by a 22-2 margin. Charleston fired 15 shots on goal.
The Golden Eagles also held a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Point Park had two shots on goal in the game, one each from
Finn Syson and
Moritz Sarfert.
David Ali got the start in Point Park's goal and made 11 saves.
UC's Nicolai Gundersen earned the clean sheet and made two saves on the evening.
Point Park will remain at home to take on Frostburg State this Saturday at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
