Box Score

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. -- No. 17-ranked Point Park University men's basketball earned an 82-74 road win over Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College on Saturday. The Pioneers (24-2, 13-2 RSC) won the back-and-forth game to surpass last year's win total of 23 victories.

Point Park led by 12 in the first half, trailed by 11 in the second half and went on to win by eight. Point Park made a key, 15-0 run midway through the second half to take the lead for good.

Point Park was without a key starter Jamisen Smith and had point guard Jalen Stamps battle foul trouble. In the end, a team effort pulled the Pioneers through to the winner's circle.

Stamps finished with 17 points and six assists alongside a strong double-double from Jo Valrie of 17 points and 14 rebounds. Jags Jhawar scored 15 points while Jordan Stowe amassed 12 points and eight rebounds playing all 40 minutes.

Nazareth Fisher had a big performance off the bench with 12 points and 14 rebounds in just 18 minutes. Nathaniel Van made it three Pioneers in double figures for rebounds with 11 boards to go along with seven points. Point Park dominated the glass, 56-39, and led in second-chance points, 33-10.

Point Park's strong effort inside led to a 46-24 advantage on points in the paint. With 7-2 Jhawar backed up by 6-10 Fisher, the Pioneers had 27 points and 16 rebounds come from the center position.

The Pioneers got out to a 23-11 the first eight minutes. That came on one of Stamps' three 3-pointers in the first half. He canned four treys for the game.

But Alice Lloyd battled back to tie the score at 42-42 at the half. The Eagles continued their momentum to carry a 64-53 lead with just 13:33 left to play.

A 3-point play the old fashioned way from Jhawar ignited the 15-0 Point Park run that came next. Other key plays in the run were Stowe hitting a 3-pointer to cut it to three points and Van making from deep to put the Pioneers up for good, 66-64. A tip-in by Fisher came moments later to cap off the run of 15 straight points and a 68-64 lead with 8:38 left.

Point Park was holding on to a 75-70 lead with two minutes left. A big defensive stop followed by a bucket from Jalen Stamps gained more control for the Pioneers. Point Park then put the game away at the free-throw line making 5 of 6 attemps.

Point Park has two home games left to finish out the regular season. The Pioneers host Ohio Christian on Tuesday, Feb. 20 and welcome WVU Tech on Friday, Feb. 23. Tipoff for both games is 7:00 p.m. at CCAC-Allegeny. Feb. 23 will be Senior Night for the Pioneers.
