Box Score 2 PORTSMOUTH, Ohio— Point Park dropped two games to Shawnee State (Ohio) on Tuesday in an RSC East Division matchup in Ohio. The Pioneers outhit the Bears in both games but were unable to capitalize on those hits as Point Park had 19 runners left on base between the two games. Shawnee State won the first game 10-6 followed up by a 3-1 win in game two.
Game 1:
Point Park and Shawnee State's offense remained silent until the third inning.
The Bears exploded for six runs and five hits in the inning. Lauren Spears started the scoring for the Bears with a single to center field to score Jenna Christopher followed up by a Cassie Berry double to right center to score both Spears and Christopher pushing the score to 3-0 in favor of the Bears.
With two runners on and one out Mackenzie Hale blasted a three-run homerun to centerfield scoring Sierra Dunnagan and Berry to extend the lead to 6-0.
In the fifth inning the Bears tacked on two more runs on a Cameryn Davidson homerun to score Dunnagan.
The Pioneers offense began to show some life in the sixth inning. With one out Gianna Welsh hit a solo homerun down the left field line to give Point Park their first run of the game.
Point Park then got back-to-back hits by Savannah Lee and Sydnie Reese to put two runners on for Mia Arndt. With Raigan Chavez pinch running for Lee, Mia Arndt blasted a triple to right field to score both Reese and Chavez.
The Bears went to the bullpen as Amariah Hoerner went in to relieve Cameryn Davidson.
Bella Magliocco did not let the pitching change affect her as she hit a single to center field to score Arndt making the score 8-5 in favor of Shawnee State.
Shawnee State scored their final two runs in the sixth inning on a Dunnagan single to left field that scored Spears and Christoph extending their lead to 10-5.
Point Park did not go out quietly as they were able to push one more run across in the seventh inning.
Welsh hit a one out single to center field to put one runner on for Lee who then doubled to right center to score Allyson Leidy who had entered the game as a pinch runner for Welsh.
Point Park was unable to score anymore giving Shawnee State a 10-6 victory.
Jaylyn Mullenax was tagged with the loss. She started in the circle for the Pioneers going 4.1 innings giving up seven hits and eight runs (seven earned) while issuing three walks and striking out three.
Kristyna Mala came in relief for the Pioneers throwing 1.2 innings of relief giving up two hits and two runs (all earned) while issuing one walk and two strikeouts.
Game 2:
Unlike in game one, Point Park started the scoring out immediately in the top of the first. Melanie Taylor started the game off with a leadoff single where she then advanced on a pass ball and sacrifice bunt by Mara Iagnemma to reach third.
Savannah Lee then hit a one out sacrifice fly to right field to score Taylor giving the Pioneers their first and only run of the game.
The rest of the game was a pitcher dual as no one scored again until the sixth inning.
Point Park's Savannah Lee was perfect through 5.0 innings until a single by Genavie Espinoza with one runner on got past Hayley O'Neil allowing Jenna Christopher to score on the error tying the game up at 1-1.
Shawnee State's Sierra Dunnagan then came up clutch for the Bears as she blasted a two-run homerun to right center to score the eventual game winning runs, putting the Bears up 3-1.
Point Park had bases loaded twice during the game but were not able to capitalize as they left 11 runners on base in the game.
Lee was tagged with the loss in the effort going 6.0 innings pitched while giving up five hits and three runs (all earned).
Six different Pioneers had hits on the game which were Taylor, Lee, Gianna Welsh, Sydnie Reese, Raigan Chavez, and Remi Koi. Lee had the Pioneers lone RBI as well.
With the two losses, Point Park falls to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in RSC Conference play while Shawnee State stayed perfect moving to 10-0 overall and 4-0 in RSC Conference play.
