Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- (RV) Point Park University baseball won its sixth game in a row with Wednesday's 17-7 victory at Washington & Jefferson College.
The Pioneers (12-7) topped the Presidents (2-4) in the local matchup of schools. Point Park was "receiving votes" in the NAIA Baseball Top 25 Poll released earlier in the day on Wednesday.
Point Park faced early deficits of 4-3 and 5-4 but then scored the next 13 runs in a row to lead 17-5 going into the bottom of the eighth.
Point Park had 15 hits in the game and scored in six different innings. The biggest frame was the top of the fourth, which had seven runs to stretch the lead out to 11-5.
Crixtian Taveras had a three-run double during the big inning to give the Pioneers the lead for good. Chris Williams followed three batters later with an RBI double of his own, one of his four hits in the game.
Williams was 4 for 5 with four RBIs. He delivered a two-run homer in the sixth to push the score to 14-5.
Carlos Martinez was 3 for 5, and he drove in a run with a double in the eighth as the offense kept coming.
Point Park totaled 15 hits off of seven W&J pitchers. Omar Morillo and Eddie Javier Jr. had two hits apiece. Morillo, Williams and Isaac Santana each scored three runs.
Taveras totaled four RBIs, and Javier Jr. had a pair.
Point Park used five pitchers with Logan Creamer getting the victory in 3.2 innings. He came on in the first inning and pitched into the fifth giving up one run on three hits.
Jose Moreno pitched the next 2.0 innings facing only seven hitters. Joey Tedesco (1.1 IP) and Kenneth Rolon (1.2 IP) combined to cover the seventh, eighth and ninth.
Point Park will play the next two days in Washington, Pa., as well. The Pioneers face Midway (Ky) for a River States Conference series Thursday and Friday at Wild Things Park. Game times are Thursday at 11:30 a.m. and Friday at 11:00 a.m. (DH) for the three-game series.
