Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Clermont, Fla. -- Point Park University Softball ended their Spring Training Trip to Florida at 4-4 by picking up two wins at The Spring Games on Friday. The Pioneers started the day off with a 1-0 walk off win in the eighth inning over Spring Arbor (Mich.) as Mara Iagnemma scored off a wild pitch to end the game. In their second game of the day, Point Park picked up nine hits to lead to them to a 2-0 win over Judson University (Ill.). This win moved the Pioneers to .500 on the season.

GAME 1: Point Park vs. Spring Arbor (Mich.)

In game one neither Point Park or Spring Arbor could manage to cross the plate for the first seven innings as both Point Park's Jaylyn Mullenax and Spring Arbor's Emmalee Hamp were throwing a phenomenal game, allowing only five hits between the two. The game was 0-0 going into the top of the eighth.

With the Cougars being the away team, they had the opportunity to try to score first. Due to International Tiebreaker rules, Elena Jones was placed on second base. Jones then advanced over to third on a one out throwing error allowing Hamp to advance to second base.

Mullenax buckled down though and forced the Cougars to hit a pop up to Raigan Chavez behind the plate as well as a fly out to center field, leaving two on base in scoring position for Spring Arbor.

Point Park finally broke through in the bottom of the eighth. Mara Iagnemma was placed on second as she was the last out in the seventh inning. Remi Koi had a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher which allowed Iagnemma to advance to third.

With one out Hamp threw a wild pitch allowing Iagnemma to score ending the game 1-0 with Point Park coming out top.

Up until this point Hamp had nearly been perfect. Hamp only allowed one hit all game on a Hayley O'Neil bunt single as well as two hit batters but her wild pitch ended up costing the Cougars the game. Hamp was tagged with the loss with 7.1 innings pitched allowing only one hit, one run (earned), no walks, and 10 strikeouts to keep the Pioneers quiet for almost all the game.

Mullenax (2-2) earned the win for Point Park as she threw 126 pitches through 8.0 innings of work in the circle. Mullenax gave up only four hits and one walk while adding four strikeouts.

Offensively the Pioneers were held to only one hit the entire game as O'Neil had recorded a bunt single back in the third inning. Point Park had only five runners on base for the entire game.

The win moves the Pioneers to 3-4 on the year and dropped Spring Arbor down to 2-2.

Game 2: Point Park vs. Judson University (Ill.)

Unlike game one on the day for the Pioneers, Point Park's offense showed up. The Pioneers managed to get nine hits which led to a 2-0 win over Judson University (Ill.). Point Park's record evened out at 4-4 for a .500 winning percentage following the win.

Point Park's offense started early as Melanie Taylor had a leadoff single to left field. With one out Mara Iagnemma delivered a single to right field scoring Melanie Taylor from second following a stolen base.

The Pioneers scored again in the third inning as the bases were loaded for Point Park when Remi Koi stepped up to the plate. Koi managed to draw a walk, bringing Iagnemma home for an RBI. Point Park was now out front 2-0 over the Eagles.

Point Park did not score again after the third but managed to pick up four more hits throughout the rest of the game.

In the bottom of the fourth Taylor picked up her second hit of the game with a single to left field.

The Pioneers picked up two more hits in the sixth inning with Taylor getting her third and final hit of the game and Mia Arndt getting a two out single to right field.

Point Park's final hit of the game came in the seventh inning when Remi Koi hit a two out single to left field.

Savannah Lee started in the circle and pitched a complete 7.0 inning game to earn the win for Point Park. Lee gave up only four hits and two walks, while earning three strikeouts. With the win, Lee moved to 2-1 on the year.

Taylor led Point Parks offense going 3 for 4 with one run score. Mara Iagnemma went 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI. Remi Koi went 1 for 3 picking up an RBI as well.

The Pioneers concluded their Spring Training Trip to Florida going 4-4 on the week for a .500-win percentage going into River States Conference play starting next week.

Point Park will begin RSC play at Shawnee State (Ohio) and Alice Lloyd (Ky.) next Friday and Saturday.
