Loughry wins again (69-69), Point Park Men's Golf places 3rd at UNOH Spring Invite

LIMA, Ohio -- Troy Loughry shot 6-under over 36 holes to pick up his second victory of the spring, and Point Park University men's golf placed third at the University of Northwestern Ohio Spring Invite on Friday from Hidden Creek Golf Club in Lima, Ohio.

Loughry, a junior from Grove City, Pa., shot matching rounds of 69. He tallied six birdies in the first round and kept the momentum going with three birdies on his front side of round two. Loughry played the back nine in even par with a birdie and single bogey to win the tournament by one stroke over UNOH's Hayden Hah (68-71).

The tournament was supposed to be played over two days Friday and Saturday. But with weather coming in on Saturday, they decided to keep playing and fit all 36 holes into Friday.

Point Park had a team score of 303 for fourth place of the five teams after Friday's first 18 holes. The Pioneers responded with their best score of the year later in the day at 293. That put Point Park third place in the final team standings.

UNOH was the class of the group with both its A and B teams putting up strong scores all day. UNOH had its top squad shoot 281-280 for first place and also had its backup team shoot 294-296 for second. Madonna (302-298) and Rochester (312-313) were a pair of Michigan schools finishing fourth and fifth.

Point Park's final round of 293 had newcomer Anthony Maltony shoot 1-over 73. He had opened up with a 74 earlier in the day as he finished in eighth place. Maltony had two birdies to begin his final round and then put together eight pars on the back.

Anthony Santilli placed 18th with scores of 78 and 76. He shot 38 on each side of the final round with a pair of birdies on the back. Tharcisse Kalinda shot 75 in the final round to finish in 21st place. He had a pair of birdies on the front side to shoot 35 on that part of the scorecard.

Loris Vollant (84-83) and Alex Zinz (90-86) rounded out the six competitors for the Pioneers.

Loughry, the junior college All-American recruit, has now won five tournaments on the year. He has won three straight dating back to the final event of the fall at Westminster and last week at Alice Lloyd (Ky.) to begin the spring.

Point Park's next event is Thursday, April 4 for the Grove City MBA Invitational at Grove City Country Club.
