PITTSBURGH -- Personal records and high finishes were plentiful for Point Park University women's track and field at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational this past weekend as the outdoor season rolled on to the third week.
The Point Park throwers were a higlight for the team. The javelin event had three Pioneers in the Top 10 at the meet with Lina Single (34.72 meters) fifth, Eden McElhaney (33.58 meters) seventh and E (30.17 meters) Emma Pavelek 10th.
All three of those javelin marks are Top 5 historical throws in team history now ranking third, fourth and fifth in program records. Single also threw a PR in the discus with a toss of 26.68 for 20th place.
The high jump also had three Pioneers in the Top 10 with Pavelek third at 1.53 meters, McElhaney ninth at 1.48 meters and Nyla Rozier 10th at 1.43 meters (PR).
Pavelek also led the Pioneers in the triple jump going 10.16 meters for seventh place and a PR. McElhaney was next at 10.00 meters for eighth place with Luchama Lubin 9.54 for 11th.
Emma Roemer placed second in the long jump with a distance of 5.13 meters, an outdoor PR and fourth on the program's all-time outdoor long jump list. Pavelek did that event as well at 4.56 meters.
On the track, the 4x100 relay placed second at 48.97 seconds. The team of Roemer, Diamond Rush, RaKeya Ellsberry and Natalea Hillen posted the third-best time in team history.
The 1,500 meters contested on Friday night had four Pioneers register PRs with Jana Schmid (4:47) placing 14th to lead the way. Others in the event were Olivia Hare (5:06), Cassondra O'Connor (5:07) and Corinne Lee-Hauser (5:20).
Also on Friday, PRs in the 5,000 meters included Allison Plassio (18:32) in 11th place and also Karen Rios (20:00) and Mya Jackson (24:04).
Sophia Lee-Hauser set a PR in the 3,000 meters running 11:24. That is the third-best outdoor 3,000 in team history.
Karen Rios paced the Pioneers in the 400 running a PR of 1:04.24 for 16th place. Hannah Bond and Jana Schmid were next both running just over 1:04.
Hare was the first of our finishers for Point Park in the 800 running 2:28 for 20th place. O'Connor and Corinne Lee-Hauser both ran 2:33. Lee-Hauser and Kyleigh Nagy (2:57) had PRs in the event.
The hurdles were once again a higlight for the Pioneers. The 400 hurdles had Diamond Rush take seventh at 1:08.48 and Natalea Hillen in ninth at 1:09.39. Lubin (1:12) came in 11th and Rios (1:13) in 13th.
Hillen had a high finish of second place in the 100 hurdles. She ran 15.07 seconds in that event. Jana Bruses, who runs for Pitt, was the only one who beat Hillen at 14.39. Most of the other top placements were from NCAA Division II.
Point Park's next events will be this coming weekend at George Mason and also the Slippery Rock Dave Labor Invitational.
