PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Point Park women's basketball team picked up a hard-fought Mountain East Conference win over Davis & Elkins defeating the Senators 72-62 on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh.
In a game that saw a lead no bigger than nine by either team, the Pioneers came out on top knocking down 22-of-58 of their field goals and shooting over 40 percent from behind the three-point line. As a team Point Park went 21-29 from the free throw line knocking down eight within the last 30 seconds to hold off the Senators.
For Point Park,
Emma Pavelek led the offense with a near double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
Alexis Giles chipped in with 10 points knocking down three from beyond the arc.
Chloe Williams had a team leading 11 rebounds and scored 11 points for a double-double on the night.
Camille Fultz helped in the paint picking up 10 points.
On the defensive end,
Ari Bleda continued racking up the steals as the senior from Barcelona, Spain picked up three steals and two blocks.
For Davis & Elkins, the Senators shot 38.7 percent from the floor and 77.8 percent from the free throw line. Jahnyia Marion led all scorers with 26 points on the night and shooting 50 percent from the floor and 6-for-7 from the free throw line. The 42 of the Senators 62 points came from inside the paints.
Point Park advances to 6-12 overall and 4-8 in Mountain East Conference play. The Pioneers are now 3-5 at home. Point Park will head back on the road for another Mountain East Conference matchup in Buckhannon, West Virginia against West Virginia Wesleyan. Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday, February 1 at 2:00 p.m.
