PITTSBURGH – The Point Park men's soccer team picked up its second-consecutive 4-1 victory on Wednesday night, defeating West Virginia Wesleyan during its home opener at Highmark Stadium in downtown Pittsburgh.
The Pioneers scored three of its four goals in the first half of the game and moved to 2-2 on the season following the win (2-1 MEC). The Bobcats are now 0-4 on the season.
Fridolin Gefrorer used an assist from
Lorenzo Grispello to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of the game. The goal was his second of the season.
Late in the first half, Point Park scored two more goals to take a 3-0 lead to the locker room. In the 42
nd minute,
Giovanni Pezzi found the back of the net on an unassisted goal, while
Cheroky Briard scored unassisted in the 45
th minute.
Point Park added its fourth goal in the 54
th minute on an unassisted goal by
Guilherme Galvao (pictured above).
West Virginia Wesleyan avoided the shutout in the 82
nd minute on a goal by Lis Shala. The goal was Wesleyan's first of the 2025 season.
Statistically, Point Park held a 23-13 advantage in total shots, including a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. The Pioneers also held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
In the Point Park goal,
Gregorio Capponi recorded four saves to earn the win.
Next, Point Park will travel south to face the University of Charleston on Sunday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
