Pioneers to Host Vulcans on Wednesday Night

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park men's soccer is set to continue its home stand on Wednesday when it hosts California (PA) at F.N.B. Stadium. Opening kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

Point Park (2-3-1, 1-2-0 MEC) dropped its second consecutive game on Saturday against Davis & Elkins. The match was canceled after 71st minute due to weather in the area. Joel Gomez and Gabriel Okita recorded Point Park's only two shots, and goalkeeper Anthony Fusay made four saves in the effort.

SCOUTING THE VULCANS

Cal (1-3-1, 0-0-0 PSAC) enters on a three-game losing skid of its own, having dropped its last matches to Millersville, Malone and D'Youville. The Vulcans were outscored 10-1 across their three losses.

Jaime Marcelo Espinosa and Seth Basinger have both scored two goals for the Vulcans with Ryan Moessner scoring a goal as well. Espinosa and Moessner are two of four Cal players with an assist and are joined by Tyler Devlin and Jacob Gretz.

Goalkeeper Justin Brink has played all five of Cal's matches, allowing 13 goals and recording 15 saves. Brink's goals-against average is 2.60 and his save percentage is .536. He was named PSAC West Division Defensive Athlete of the Week on Aug. 31st after making six saves and allowing three goals over the team's first two matches.

Point Park and Cal share two common opponents: Wheeling and D'Youville. The Pioneers beat Wheeling 2-1 and drew 0-0 with D'Youville, while Cal beat Wheeling 2-1 in its season opener and lost 1-0 to D'Youville.

FORT FUSAY

In his first season as a Pioneer, Goalkeeper Anthony Fusay is quickly rising to the top of MEC stat boards. Fusay, a junior from Lille, France, by way of Lincoln Memorial University, is tied for second in the MEC in shutouts and ranks fifth in saves with 18 and save percentage at .692. He also ranks sixth in the conference in goals-against average (1.38)

PRESEASON PRAISE

Point Park was picked to finish second in the Mountain East Conference North Division in the MEC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll. The Pioneers received four of the 10 first-place votes.

MORENO'S ON FIRE

Senior Hector Moreno leads the Pioneers with two goals and 4 points in the young season. His nine shots and seven shots on goal also lead Point Park. Moreno, who hails from El Cerrito, Colombia, is tied for sixth in the MEC in goals.

Moreno's best tally of the season came against West Liberty when he popped up the ball to himself before performing a bicycle kick from 15 yards out to score.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

All 11 of Point Park's starters in their season opener against Seton Hill made their Pioneer first-team debut. Of the 21 total Pioneers who saw action, all but five were in their first game with Point Park. Only Guilherme Galvao, Lorenzo Grispello, Rocco Domenighini.
