WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Late goals by
Joao Weber and
Azavier Coppin propelled the Point Park men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Mountain East Conference opponent West Liberty on Wednesday night at the West Family Athletic Complex.
During the first 80 minutes of play in the matchup neither team was able to find the back of the net until the Pioneers finally broke through in the 84
th minute as
Joao Weber found the bottom left corner of the net off an assist from
Ido Chalamish to put the Pioneers up 1-0.
Point Park put the game away five minutes later as
Azavier Coppin found the lower right back of the net in the 89
th minute to seal the 2-0 victory for the Pioneers.
In the matchup Point Park held a 15-8 advantage in shots with 11 of Point Park shots being on goal. The Pioneers also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Both teams recorded 14 fouls in the matchup.
Gregorio Capponi recorded his first shutout win as a Pioneer recording three saves in 90 minutes of work in the net.
With the win, Point Park evens their overall record up at 3-3 while moving to 3-2 in Mountain East Conference play. The Pioneers will return to Pittsburgh as they host Frostburg State this Saturday for Point Park's annual Homecoming Game. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
