BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Point Park men's soccer team fell to Salem 1-0 in a tightly contested matchup at The Bridge Port Complex in Bridgeport, West Virginia on Sunday afternoon.
During the first half of play neither team was able to score as both team's defenses came out strong to start the match. Salem outshot Point Park 5-2 in the first half with one of Salem's shots being the only shot on goal for the entire half. The Pioneers were called offsides four and registered five fouls in the first 45 minutes.
Salem broke open the scoring in the 76
th minute as Salem's Caleb Christner found Abdul Kabbany for the back of the net for the eventual game winner as the Pioneers were unable to score in the final minutes of the matchup.
The second half proved to have more action as Salem outshot Point Park 8-5 with four of their shots being on goal. The Tigers also had the 6-3 advantage in corner kicks over the Pioneers.
In the matchup Salem had the 13-7 advantage in shots and a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks. Each team registered eight fouls during the matchup.
In goal, junior transfer
Gregorio Capponi (0-1) got his first start in a Point Park uniform playing all 90 minutes for the Pioneers allowing one goal while recording three saves.
Point Park (0-1) will head back on the road on Wednesday September 10
th as they travel to Athens, West Virginia to take on Concord in the first conference matchup of the season. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Callaghan Stadium.
