PITTSBURGH - Down by 10 at halftime, Point Park mounted a strong second-half comeback to earn a season split with West Liberty in a 73–68 victory on Wednesday night at CCAC.
The Pioneers were locked in defensively, recording four steals and four blocks while controlling the glass with 44 rebounds. Offensively, Point Park shot 40.3 percent from the field (27-of-67) and went 18-of-24 from the free-throw line (75%). The difference came in the paint, where the Pioneers scored 46 of their 73 points.
Elizabeth Boyd led the way with a career-high 21 points and added an assist. Her previous career-best came earlier this season (Dec. 13) against Davis & Elkins, when she scored 20. Alexis Giles and Camile Fultz also played key roles, each finishing with 20 points.
Fultz and Kiyana Larocque grabbed seven rebounds apiece, while Boyd contributed two blocks. Giles also set her own career high in assists with five.
As a team, the Pioneers assisted on 12 of their 27 made field goals.
West Liberty had three players score in double figures, led by Anna Lucarelli and Reagan Vinskovich with 16 points each, while Olivia Baker added 12. Vinskovich recorded a game-high 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.
Point Park improves to 4–11 overall and 2–9 in conference action. The Pioneers snapped a seven-game losing streak with Wednesday's win.
With the loss, the Hilltoppers fall to 5–12 overall and 2–8 in MEC play.
Point Park will close its three-game homestand Saturday afternoon, hosting Salem in a non-conference matchup at CCAC. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
