BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – After sweeping the Mountain East Conference North Division and Tournament Championship crowns in 2025, head coach
Loren Torres' Point Park baseball team was voted to finish second in the north division this spring.
The Pioneers are coming off a 41-13 campaign in 2025, including a 22-6 mark in league play. Torres was named the MEC Coach of the Year last spring, while senior outfielder
Jared Campbell was named the league's Player of the Year and an All-American by ABCA and NCBWA.
Last May in the MEC Baseball Tournament, Point Park swept its way to the title in convincing fashion, defeating Concord 15-5 on day one, before downing West Virginia State on day three by a final of 8-2. In the semifinals, Point Park defeated Frostburg State, 7-4. On Championship Sunday, the Pioneers shutout Fairmont State, 7-0, to take home the MEC baseball title.
During preseason voting, Frostburg State was picked to win the North Division, receiving 47 points and eight first-place votes. Point Park received three first-place votes (41 points), and was picked to finish second ahead of Fairmont State (32), West Liberty (20) and Wheeling (16).
In the south, Charleston tallied eight of the 11 first-place votes to top preseason balloting with 56 points. UC was selected to finish ahead of Concord (49), West Virginia State (45), Glenville State (30), West Virginia Wesleyan (21) and Davis and Elkins (20).
Concord received two first place votes in the south, while West Virginia State finished with one.
The Pioneers open the season at the Division II Round Robin at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The opener is slated for Friday, Feb. 27 against Dominican University of New York with a 10 a.m. first pitch.
