4 Pioneers Set Program Records to Close YSU Mid-Major

Eaton, Heller, Bowen and Jones all set records

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Point Park track & field saw four new program records in the final day of the YSU Mid-Major Invitational, with Maxwell Eaton, Alexis Heller, Chase Bowen and Trey Jones all leaving their mark in program history on Saturday.

Eaton, a freshman from Silver Spring, Md., recorded a 49.46-second time in the 400m in a seventh-place finish. 

 

Heller shattered her previous program record of 12.21 meters in the shot put, recording a distance of 12.57 meters. Heller took first place in the event, beating out second place by .23 meters.

 

Chase Bowen, who set the third-best mile time (4:17.69) in program history last week, set a new program record with his time of 4:15.65, good for seventh place. Bowen finished just ahead of teammate Pedro Lemos, who re-set his fourth-best time in program history from 4:19.21 to 4:16.35, good for eighth place in the event. 

 
Trey Jones set a new program record in the heptathlon with his score of 3,359 points. Jones narrowly passed Andrew Hartung, who set the program's second-best score with his 3.353 points. Hartung (2:57.62) also finished eighth in the 1000m. 
 

Gabriella Wesney finished eighth in the shot put with her 11.81-meter toss. Wesney holds the second-best mark in program history at 12.07 meters.

 

Dunya Van den Tooren concluded her record-setting weekend with a 12th-place finish in the 800m. Van den Tooren, who set a program record on Friday with her pentathlon score of 3400, notched a time of 2:34.98.

 

Khady Ndiaye recorded two top-10 finishes Saturday, taking seventh in the triple jump (10.97 meters) and eighth in the high jump (1.45 meters). Ndiaye sits in fourth place in program history in the triple jump at 11.14 meters. 

 

Kamar Sutherland finished third in the 60m hurdles at 8.37 seconds,

 

Two Pioneers finished in the top five in the women's mile, with Lotte Zethof (5:19.19) placing third and Aubrey Smith (5:21.71) claiming the fifth spot. 


The women's 4x400m relay team of Aubrey Smith, Olivia Hutcherson, Lindsay Simmons and Alina Bigec finished fourth with its time of 4:12.80.

Point Park track & field will compete on Friday, Feb. 7, at Penn State's Sykes & Saybock Challenge in State College, Pa.
