PITTSBURGH – The Point Park baseball team will open the 2026 season on Friday evening at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. The NCAA Division II Round Robin will be played from Friday to Sunday, with the Pioneers opening on Friday at 4 p.m. against Dominican University of New York.
The action will continue on Saturday with a doubleheader against Pace, beginning at 12 noon. Point Park will wrap up play on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Wilmington (Del.).
Point Park is coming off a 41-13 record and Mountain East Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championship. The Pioneers enter the season on a five-game winning streak and finished last season with a 22-6 mark in league play.
Storylines:
- Point Park has to replace six of its top seven hitters from 2025, including All-American and MEC Player of the Year Jared Campbell.
- Outfielder Trevor Jones is Point Park's top returning hitter from last season, hitting .328 with a .912 ops and .528 slugging percentage. Jones finished the year with four home runs, three triples, seven doubles and 23 runs batted-in.
- Luis Gonzalez also returns after hitting .251 with six home runs and 13 doubles a season ago.
- Chris Williams also returns to the starting lineup after hitting .242 with three home runs and 14 doubles.
- The Point Park pitching staff remains together, except for the graduation of Javier Cardoso II. In fact, Point Park returns three pitchers that recorded five-or-more wins a season ago, including Harold Boyce (6-2), Ethan Parker (6-3), and Ramon Rodriguez (5-3).
- The bullpen is also experienced with the return of Logan Creamer, Brandon Clifford and Joey Tedesco.
- Boyce finished 2025 as a first team All-MEC selections. He turned in a 6-2 record with a 3.30 ERA. He recorded 49 strikeouts, allowed just 25 runs (23 earned) and had two complete games and five saves.
- Head coach Loren Torres enters the season just 20 wins shy of 700 for his career (680-348). He is a seven-time conference coach of the year and has led Point Park to six conference tournament championships and eight national tournaments. He has a career winning percentage of 66.1 percent.
