Point Park Edges Pace University Twice in Cary

CARY, N.C. – Point Park moved to 3-0 on the season with a sweep of Pace University on Saturday afternoon at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, N.C. Point Park swept the doubleheader by scores of 5-3 and 4-3.
 
Game 1
 
After a scoreless first inning, Point Park got on the board first in the bottom of the second. Sebastian Hernandez drove in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly that scored Felix Rodriguez. Later in the inning, Trevor Jones hit an RBI single to send home Franklin Gomez Jr. from second.
 
Already leading 2-0, Point Park added a run in the third on a RBI single by Gomez that scored Blake Ewing from second.
 
Pace made it a one-run game in the fourth following an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly.
 
Leading 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Point Park added two more runs in the frame. Ewing doubled to lead off the inning then stole third to set up the PPU scoring opportunity. Carlos de la Vega brought Ewing home with a sacrifice fly during the next at-bat.
 
Later in the inning, Hernandez drive home Gomez on an RBI single to make it 5-2.
 
Pace plated one run in the seventh, but Carter Raper recorded the final three outs to wrap up the Pioneer win and the save. Camden Dimidjian (1-0) worked the first six innings for Point Park, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three.
 
Jones finished with a pair of hits and an RBI at the plate.
 
Game 2
 
In the second game, Luis Gonzalez put Point Park on the board with a sacrifice fly to score Chris Williams in the top of the first. Pace answered though, with a solo home run by Brayden Sweppenhiser.
 
The 1-1 score stayed until the top of the sixth, when Trevor Jones left the park for his first home run of the season, a solo shot.
 
But, Pace answered again with an RBI single by Manny Carreras to make it 2-2.
 
In the top of the seventh, Olindo Pezzone brough home Gomez with the bases loaded to give Point Park another one-run advantage in the game.
 
However, the back-and-forth scoring continued with Pace scoring on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, forcing the game into extra innings.
 
After a scoreless eighth, Gonzalez knocked in the final run of the game on an RBI single that scored Nicholas Briones from second. Logan Creamer then entered the game in the bottom of the ninth and recorded the final three outs to give Point Park the one-run win.
 
Point Park used a committee of pitchers in the game following a start by Noah Jordan. Manny Garcia worked the eighth and earned the win, while Logan Creamer recorded his first save of 2026.
 
Point Park returns to action on Sunday morning against Wilmington (Del.). First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
