CARY, N.C. – Cam Trego gave Wilmington (Del.) a 4-3 walk-off win over Point Park on Sunday afternoon to end the Pioneer's three-day weekend in Cary, North Carolina. Despite Sunday's heart-breaking loss, the Pioneers will return to Pittsburgh with a 3-1 record to begin the 2026 season.
With two runners on, Point Park got on the board first when an error during
Luis Gonzalez's at-bat allowed
Chris Williams to come home from second. In the same inning,
Franklin Gomez Jr. grounded out, but did enough to bring home
Trevor Jones from third for an RBI.
Wilmington scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead at the mid-way point of the game.
Point Park's
Felix Rodriguez hit an RBI double in the top of the eighth to bring home
Blake Ewing as the tying run.
However, in the bottom of the ninth, Trego led off the inning with a solo home run to give Wilmington the win in walk-off fashion.
Rodriguez hit two doubles to lead Point Park at the plate, while Williams added another double.
Brandon Clifford made the start and played four innings for Point Park, while
Ethan Parker worked the fifth through seventh, and
Joey Tedesco thew the eighth.
Harold Boyce suffered the loss as he entered the game in the ninth. Boyce went 1-1 on the weekend.
Point Park will now prepare for six games in the sunshine state, beginning with a matchup against Barry University on Friday, March 6. First pitch is set for 9 a.m.
