ELKINS, W.Va. – Point Park avenged a lopsided early-season loss to Davis & Elkins on Monday night, defeating the Senators 91-77 at the McDonnell Center. The Pioneers shot a blistering 60 percent from the floor (18-of-30) in the second half to stretch a two-point halftime lead into a double-figure final deficit.
Point Park had five double-figure scorers on Monday, led by the reining MEC Player of the Week
Aidan Anderson with 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
Grant Welch made six 3-pointers in the game and finished the evening with 18 points and 11 rebounds – his first double-double in a Point Park uniform. The Pioneers also got 17 points apiece from
Jaylen Stewart and
Greg Williams, while
Kaden Warner finished with 12 points and five assists.
Rob Keys came off the bench to score six.
The Pioneers capitalized from behind the arc, making 13-of-23 from long range (56.5%), while also going 16-of-20 from the charity stripe. For the game, Point Park shot 52.5 percent from the floor (31-of-59).
Defensively, Point Park limited D&E to just 41 percent from the floor and 23 percent from three (7-of-30). The Pioneers also edged the Senators on the glass by a 32-31 margin.
In the first meeting between the teams, D&E's Vegas Evans scored 21 points. On Monday, he was limited to just six on 3-of-10 shooting.
The Senators got a game-high 23 points and five rebounds from Matthew Gray. Noah Adamczyk added 18.
Prior to Point Park's hot-shooting second half, the game featured 10 ties and 12 lead changes.
Point Park will return home to host Glenville State on Wednesday evening at CCAC. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
