WHEELING, W.Va. – Wheeling opened up an 8-2 halftime lead and went on to defeat Point Park 15-5 on Wednesday evening at Bishop Schmitt Field in Wheeling, West Virginia.
With the win, Wheeling improved to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in G-MAC play. The Pioneers dropped to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in league play.
Braydan Stearns paced the Pioneers with two goals on the night, while
Tigran Ceesay,
Grant Huber and
Logan Foy each added one goal apiece.
Sawyer Leko and
Alec Batchelor each recorded an assist. Foy also led the Pioneers with six groundballs in the contest.
Wheeling got five points apiece from Jake Rowe and Andrew Turner in the win. Rowe scored four goals to go with one assist, while Turner netted one goals and passed out four assists. The Cardinals also got three goals apiece from Zach Bridenbaker and Josh Wesneski.
Wheeling held statistical advantages in shots (53-38) and saves (17-11) in the win. The Cardinals also recorded clears on 22-of-27 attempts and held a 31-30 edge in groundballs.
Wheeling also went 2-for-3 in extra-man opportunities, compared to 0-for-4 for Point Park.
Point Park returns home to host Seton Hill on Wednesday, April 8. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
