PITTSBURGH – Davis & Elkins outscored Point Park 4-1 in the fourth quarter to pick up a 14-11 Mountain East Conference win over the Pioneers on Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium.
The game was evenly matched throughout, with Davis & Elkins leading 7-5 at the half and the score being tied 10-10 after three quarters.
With the score tied 3-3 at the 4:36 mark of the first following a goal by Kylie Leasure, D&E would score four goals in the row to take a 7-3 lead with 10:29 remaining in the opening half.
Andrea Kinger scored at the 10:01 mark with an assist from
Taylor Desko and
Gracie Favela used an assist from Leasure at the 6:52 mark to pull the Pioneers within two at the break.
Davis & Elkins scored the first goal of the third quarter to make it 8-5, before the Pioneers tied it up with three scores in a row.
Emma Diaz found the back of the net at the 10:33 and 9:56 marks to pull Point Park within one at 8-7, and Leasure knotted the score on an unassisted goal at 9:24.
After two goals by Davis & Elkins at 8:23 and 7:43, Point Park responded with back-to-back goals from Favela to send the game to the fourth tied 10-10.
D&E put the game away in the fourth with a 4-1 scoring advantage.
Tessa Hueber wrapped up Point Park's scoring at the 3:31 mark of the fourth.
Three Pioneers finished the game with four points, including Kinger (2 goals, 2 assists), Leasure (2 goals, 2 assists) and Favela (3 goals, 1 assist). Hueber added three points with one goal and two assists.
Taylor Desko led Point Park with six caused turnovers and nine groundballs. Kinger tallied six draw controls.
Davis & Elkins was led by Rylee Anderson with four goals and two assists.
Point Park continues conference play on Wednesday at the University of Charleston. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
