PITTSBURGH – Following a doubleheader sweep of Salem, Point Park looks to carry that momentum into a Mountain East Conference South Division crossover weekend against Glenville State and Concord.
The Pioneers erupted offensively in the sweep, totaling 26 hits and 21 runs across the two games. The bottom of the lineup played a key role, going 17-for-31 with 11 RBIs, highlighted by a home run from Emma Henry. Julia Johnson earned wins in both games in the circle and has now won her last three outings.
Glenville State enters the weekend at 31-13 overall and 18-6 in MEC play, sitting second in the South Division behind Charleston. The Pioneers split a doubleheader with Concord on Wednesday, winning game one 5-4 before falling 3-2 in extra innings. Glenville State has won eight of its last 10 games.
In the "Battle of the Pioneers," Glenville State leads the all-time series 2-1, with all three meetings coming last season. Point Park claimed game one of the regular-season doubleheader, 8-7, on a Julia Hill walk-off single that scored Emma Henry. Glenville State took game two, 3-1. The teams met again in the MEC Tournament, where Point Park held a 2-0 lead before Glenville State scored four unanswered runs to eliminate the Pioneers.
Concord is currently holding onto third place in the South Division with a 10-14 conference record (20-22 overall), sitting just one game ahead of both West Virginia State and Davis & Elkins. The Mountain Lions have gone 2-8 in their last 10 games and will host Salem on Sunday before hosting Point Park on Monday.
Like Glenville State, all three meetings between Point Park and Concord came last season. Point Park swept the regular-season series (6-3, 5-3), but Concord earned a 4-1 win in the MEC Tournament.
