GLENVILLE, W. Va. – Glenville State used timely hitting in game one and an early offensive explosion in game two to sweep Point Park in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at the Sue Morris Complex.
GAME ONE: GLENVILLE STATE 5 – 2 POINT PARK
W: Burdick (15-5), L: Johnson (8-14)
After a quiet first inning, Glenville State struck first in the bottom of the second. Emily Nolan led off with a single and was replaced by pinch runner Addie Hicks, who immediately made an impact by stealing second. Following a flyout that moved her into scoring position, Kylee Goodman executed a bunt that resulted in a fielder's choice, allowing Hicks to cross the plate for a 1-0 lead.
Point Park answered in the top of the third. Kaylee Fabiano opened the inning with a single, and Mia Arndt reached on a bunt that resulted in a throwing error, putting runners on the corners. Cam Mann brought Fabiano home with a fielder's choice to even the score at one.
The tie didn't last long. Glenville State responded with a four-run third inning powered by both power and situational hitting. Shelby McDaniels drew a leadoff walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt before Delany Warnick launched a two-run home run to left field. Nolan followed with a double and later scored on a single by Howe. Emma McLean capped the inning with an RBI single, pushing the lead to 5-1.
The Pioneers chipped away in the fifth. Arndt reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Ava Hubble to make it 5-2, but that would be as close as Point Park would get.
Fabiano and Gianna Welsh each went 2-for-3 to lead the offense, while Hubble and Mann drove in runs.
Julia Johnson went the distance in the circle, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out three. Kylie Burdick earned the win for Glenville State, tossing a complete game and allowing just two runs (one earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts.
GAME TWO: GLENVILLE STATE 11 – 0 POINT PARK (5 INNINGS)
Glenville State carried its momentum into game two, putting the game out of reach early with back-to-back four-run innings.
The Pioneers found themselves trailing immediately as McDaniels led off with a single, stole second, and eventually scored on a single from Lillian Burns. Burns later came around to score on a sacrifice fly, and additional baserunners set up another RBI single from Goodman to give Glenville a 3-0 lead after one.
The second inning proved even more damaging. Alexis Harward sparked the rally with a single and stolen base, eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Nolan delivered the big blow—a three-run home run that extended the lead to 7-0.
Glenville State wasn't finished. In the third, the Pioneers struggled to slow the momentum as the Pioneers issued walks and allowed key extra-base hits. McDaniels drove in a run with a single, and Burns capped the scoring with an inside-the-park home run, stretching the lead to 11-0.
That margin would hold as the game ended after five innings via run rule.
Ava Hubble recorded the lone hit for Point Park in the contest.
Maci Boggess was dominant for Glenville State, tossing a one-hit shutout over five innings while striking out five. Emma Henry took the loss for the Pioneers, allowing seven runs in 1.1 innings.
