WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty scored in the 61
st minute to defeat Point Park, 3-2, on Wednesday evening at the West Family Soccer Complex.
Hector Moreno and
Lander Barrio Gonzalez netted goals for the Pioneers in the setback.
West Liberty put the first point on the board in the eighth minute on a goal from Brian Russell. Moreno answered for the Pioneers in the 12
th minute off an assist from Gijs Van den Berg.
West Liberty took the lead into the locker room following Leyton Collier's 33
rd minute goal that was assisted by Leandre Tyssandier.
Just under six minutes into the second half, Gonzalez found the back of the net with an assist from Guiherme Galvao to provide the equalizer for Point Park at 2-2.
West Liberty's Alec Aceves broke the tie for good in the 61
st minute to give the Hilltoppers the 3-2 conference win.
Point Park held a 10-9 advantage in total shots, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. PPU also held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Anthony Fusay made the start for PPU in goal, recording one save. Shai'ya Fitzgerald earned the win in the West Liberty goal, making three saves while allowing two goals.
Moreno fired four shots in the game, two of which were on target.
Point Park returns home to host Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon at FNB Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
