PITTSBURGH – The Point Park University women's soccer team scored a goal with less than a minute remaining, but ran out of time in a 2-1 loss to Ohio Christian University Saturday in a River States Conference match.
It was a defensive battle in the first half that led to a 0-0 tie heading in the locker room at halftime.
Point Park (4-7-2, 3-2 RSC) came out firing in the second half, but it was the Trailblazers who struck first on a penalty kick by Lexi Paas in the 59th minute to put OCU up, 1-0.
Ohio Christian (6-5-2, 3-0-1 RSC) extended its lead to 2-0 in the 82nd minute when Rachel Bingaman made a move around Point Park goalkeeper Rebecca Cohen on a misplayed ball.
The Pioneers were looking for some last-minute heroics, and Izzy Hunter delivered in the 89th minute by going top-shelf on a free kick opportunity to cut OCU's lead to 2-1.
It was too little too late for the Pioneers, however, as time ran out in regulation.
The win puts Ohio Christian in second place in the RSC standings behind Asbury (Ky.) University, and bumps Point Park down to fourth in the standings behind Asbury, OCU and WVU Tech.
Today was Point Park's "Pink Out" game. The team sold baked goods and tee shirts, and raffled off gift baskets to raise money for the Lukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The Pioneers have three RSC games remaining against WVU Tech, Rio Grande (Ohio) and crosstown rival Carlow.
Point Park travels to WVU Tech Thursday, Oct. 20 for a 5 p.m. RSC matchup.
