RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The Point Park University women's soccer defense did not allow the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) a single shot on goal en route to a 1-0 win in River States Conference action Sunday.
The Pioneers (6-7-2, 5-2 RSC) out-shot the Red Storm (3-11-2, 2-3-1 RSC) 18-1, and goalkeeper Rebecca Cohen did not have to face a single shot thanks to the Point Park defense.
Freshman Nikki Polens (Oakmont, Pa./Riverview HS) scored the lone, unassisted goal for the Pioneers in the 29th minute, which was enough to secure the win.
The win advanced Point Park to second in the RSC standings with a potential bye in the playoffs, if they can hang on to one of the top two spots.
The Pioneers have yet to face crosstown rival Carlow University, which will also be Point Park's Senior Day celebrations on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Point Park hosts Washington Adventist University on Oct. 26 for a 4 p.m. non-conference game at Highmark Stadium.
