PITTSBURGH – The Point Park University women's soccer defense allowed only one shot in a 1-0 win over non-conference opponent Washington Adventist (Md.) University Wednesday at Highmark Stadium.
This is the second game in a row the Pioneers' (7-7-2, 5-2 RSC) defense has only allowed one shot, and the second game where Rebecca Cohen did not have to make a save in goal. This was her fifth shutout of the season.
Freshman Gabby Widman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear HS) scored her second goal of the season for the Pioneers in the 78th minute off an assist from junior Noel Hartle (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area HS).
The Shock (9-3-1) ended their regular season without a shot on goal, but goalkeeper Laura Perez made 13 saves to keep the game close until the end.
Point Park faces crosstown rival Carlow University Saturday, Oct. 29 for a 5 p.m. River States Conference game. It is also the Pioneers' Senior Day, and celebrations will take place at the conclusion of the men's soccer game, which begins at 3 p.m.
Point Park is still holding strong in the second place spot on the RSC leaderboard, and Saturday's game is vital for them to remain in that spot.
