RICHMOND, Ind. -- Point Park University men's soccer is on the road this weekend for two key, River States Conference matchups. The Pioneers play at upstart IU East on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and they visit Ohio Christian on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Point Park has won eight of its last nine matches and carries a record of 8-3 overall, 3-1 RSC into the weekend. It is an important pair of games for the Pioneers, who are within a half game of first place in the conference. A good showing would do well in what is a crowded top half of the RSC table with the top four teams separated by less than a game.
The matchup at IU East (5-5-2, 0-2-1 RSC) features the Pioneers playing the Red Wolves, a first-year program. IU East notched a big result in its early history with last weekend's tie, 2-2, in double overtime versus then-No. 3 ranked Rio Grande, the perennial power in the conference.
Saturday's opponent, Ohio Christian, hosts Carlow on Thursday evening, and the Trailblazers enter the weekend with a record of 2-9 overall, 2-1 RSC. OCU had a rough start to the year with having to take five forfeits while it got some personnel issues sorted out, but they notched a 1-0 win over IU East in their conference opener. The other two losses are to the top teams in the conference, Rio Grande and WVU Tech.
