PITTSBURGH – The Point Park men's soccer team will return to the road for a matchup against the University of Charleston (3-0-2, 2-0-1 MEC) on Sunday afternoon. The Mountain East Conference matchup is set for a 1:30 kickoff.
After being held scoreless in their first two games of the 2025 season, the Pioneers have won back-to-back games by scores of 4-1 over Wheeling and West Virginia Wesleyan.
Storylines
- Point Park comes into Sunday's matchup with a record of 2-2, including a 2-1 mark in conference games.
- After starting the season with an 0-2 record, the Pioneers defeated Wheeling on Sept. 14 and West Virginia Wesleyan on Sept. 17.
- In Wednesday's home opener against the Bobcats, the Pioneers had four different goal scorers, including Guilherme Galvao, Giovanni Pezzi, Cheroky Briard and Fridolin Gefrorer. Lorenzo Grispello recorded an assist against the Bobcats.
- In Point Park's first victory of the season back on Sept. 14, Ido Chalamish scored two second-half goals to lead the Pioneers in the 4-1 win. Gefrorer and Tomle Donig also netted goals against the Cardinals, while Lennard Schneider recorded two assists.
- Point Park is averaging 15.3 shots per game this season, with nearly 38 percent of the shot attempts being on-target (23-61).
- Statistically, the Pioneers are being led by Chalamish and Gefrorer with two goals apiece. Pezzi has one goal and one assist for the Pioneers.
- During the 2024 season, Point Park dropped two games to the University of Charleston. On Sept. 11 on the road, UC picked up a 1-0 victory over the Pioneers. At Highmark Stadium on Oct. 23, Charleston was victorious by a 3-0 final.
