MIDWAY, Ky. -- Point Park University volleyball started off its River States Conference weekend road trip with a 3-1 victory Friday night at Midway (Ky.) University. The Pioneers (8-6, 1-1 RSC) won the final three sets to take the match, 17-25, 25-10, 25-18, 25-20.
Point Park had some early struggles on the attack with 11 hitting errors in the first set. But the Pioneers corrected that and got the hitting going in a big way. They hit .344 and .345 in the next two sets to go up, 2-1, and they racked up 49 total kills for the match compared to 27 for Midway.
Senior Ashley Taylor had a big match with 13 kills, 13 digs and six blocks. The Pioneers had three players in double digits for kills with Jordan Dixon putting up 13 kills and Erica Gumz 10. Jazlyn Rozier collected nine kills with those top four hitters accounting for 45 of the 49 kills.Point Park also posted a big block led by Jada Jones with seven total blocks alongside Taylor's six.
Julia Menosky put together 36 assists and a team-high 19 digs. Also in with a double-double was Dixon thanks to her 13 digs. Morgan Dangelo tallied 12 digs, and Ashley Castelli contributed eight digs.
Point Park took control of the match midway through the second set when it went on a 13-1 run for a 23-9 lead. Point Park won the last six points of the third set for the 25-18 win. Point Park built a 19-13 lead in the fourth set, and although Midway battled back to within 24-20, a kill by Jones ended the match.
The Pioneers play the second half of their RSC road trip on Saturday at Asbury (Ky.) (12-7, 4-0 RSC). Match time is 1 p.m. in Wilmore, Ky. Live video streaming is scheduled with a link at PointParkSports.com.
