Burns named RSC Player of the Week with strong weekend

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Point Park University point guard Michelle Burns averaged 24.5 points and 6.0 assists per game in two league wins to score River States Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 21-28.

A 5-4 sophomore from Greensburg, Pa., Burns keyed a 2-0 RSC weekend for the Pioneers with a career-high 33 points and a school-record nine made 3-pointers in a win over Asbury (Ky.) and then 16 points, nine assists and four steals in an overtime win over Alice Lloyd (Ky.).

For the week, Burns shot 49 percent from the field (15 for 31) and 56 percent from outside the arc (10 for 18). She was 9 for 13 from long range in her record performance.

In the last four games over a two-week span, Burns has scored 97 points (24.3 ppg), averaged 3.8 apg and 2.0 spg while shooting 47 percent overall and 58 percent (18 for 31) from beyond the arc.

Point Park is 10-13 overall, 6-6 RSC and will travel to Carlow on Tuesday.
