Point Park drops RSC road game at Cincinnati Christian

CINCINNATI -- Point Park University women's basketball made its comeback in the third quarter, but Cincinnati Christian University won the other three quarters and ultimately won the game over the Pioneers, 68-50. It was a River States Conference East-West crossover game played on Saturday.

Point Park (6-11, 2-4 RSC) had a tough first half shooting only 24 percent from the field and committing 16 turnovers. Cincinnati Christian (8-8, 4-2 RSC) shot 54 percent and was surviving 11 turnovers in the first half to lead, 38-22, at the break.

Point Park responded with a 16-5 run in the third quarter to make it a five-point game, 43-38, after three. But CCU put together another big quarter in the fourth outscoring the Pioneers, 25-12, to finish off the victory.

CCU ended up shooting 44 percent. The Eagles committed just five turnovers the second half and went to their key players for big baskets and stayed ahead. Point Park finished with 32-percent shooting and 26 total turnovers.

Sam Weir had another double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds for Point Park. She hit one of her three treys to start the third-quarter run.

Kaitlyn Smith added nine points, five rebounds and four assists the for the Pioneers. Baylie Mook scored eight points and made 2 of 3 3-pointers off the bench.

CCU's Kamiylah Bomar led everyone with 20 points. Autumn Westmoreland scored 17 points on 6 of 9 from the field and fellow post player Gabby Suarez scored 10 points on 4 for 8 from the floor.

Weir's basket early in the fourth quarter trimmed CCU's lead to 49-43. But then Bomar scored CCU's next six points, and Suarez tacked on a 3-pointer on top of that for a 59-48 lead with under three minutes to go.

Point Park visits IU East for another RSC road game on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Game time is 5:30 p.m. in Richmond, Ind. Point Park returns home Saturday, Jan. 12 versus Ohio Christian (1:00 p.m.)
