Siena Heights deals defeat to Point Park

PITTSBURGH -- Siena Heights University used a big second half to get out in front and then pull away from Point Park University, 7-2, in an NAIA women's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium.

Siena Heights (2-1-1) steadily erased a 2-1, halftime deficit first by drawing even on Isabel Remar's goal in the 50th minute. The Saints went in front, 3-2, on Erin Tyson's tally in the 64th minute.

The Pioneers (0-4) remained just one goal down until the latter stages when Siena Heights scored four goals in the final 12 minutes to make it a wide final margin. Those goals came in the 79th, 84th, 89th and 90th minutes.

Point Park got off to a great start with 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes. Taylor Goldstrohm broke free on a breakaway and converted the chance to get things going at 6:22. Three minutes later, Chloe Bowser connected with Gabby Widman on a corner kick and a 2-0 advantage. Bowser hit Widman on the far post, and she knocked it in.

Siena Heights converted a turnover into its first goal from Jennifer Richmond moments later at 11:30. The Pioneers maintained the halftime lead of 2-1 despite SHU holding a 15-6 edge in shots the first 45 minutes. The Saints made it a 31-10 edge for the game.

Point Park returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 12 at Washington Adventist (Md.). The next home game is Tuesday, Sept. 17 versus Shawnee State (Ohio).
