Point Park win over SMWC takes momentum into Brescia

MONACA, Pa. -- Point Park University women's basketball will enter Monday night's game at Brescia (Ky.) as winners of four of their last five games. That's after a 77-64 win over St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) College on Saturday from the

Michelle Burns poured in 25 points and led a strong performance at the free-throw line for the Pioneers. Point Park was 21 for 24 from the line, which included 19 for 22 in the second half to put the game away. Burns, who was 9 for 9 at the line, moved to within 11 points of third place on Point Park's all-time scoring list.

Taylor Rinn got her third double-double in a row with 17 points and 10 rebounds. She was 7 for 12 from the field and 3 for 3 at the stripe. She had a couple of big baskets to work a 45-37 lead in the third, and her bucket made the score 51-41 early on in the fourth.

Sierra Seneta tossed in 16 points -- one off her career-high set two games ago -- on a hot shooting day. She was 5 for 7 overall and 3 for 5 from deep. All three of the outside makes came in the first half as the Pioneers were up 18-15 after one and 32-27 at the half.

Lexi Petit added nine points, seven assists and a 4-for-4 performance at the foul line. The Pioneers were still up by eight points at 47-39 enter the fourth.

A big basket and a free throw by Burns came with 3:47 left and an important lead of 61-51. Petit's jumper at the 2:53 mark had the Pioneers up 63-54. Although that was the last field goal for Point Park, they made 14 of 16 free throws from that point on to stay in control.
