Box Score

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University women's soccer had a clean victory, 2-0, over Midway (Ky.) University on Thursday night from Highmark Stadium. It was the third win in a row for the Pioneers, who are now 4-6 overall, 3-0 RSC. Point Park has won four of its last five games overall.

It was the first of two home games on the weekend for the Pioneers. Point Park scored one goal in each half and posted the shutout to top the solid Midway side that came into the game at .500 overall. The Eagles are now 3-4-2, 1-2-1 RSC.

Point Park got right to work with a goal by Athena Beck in the second minute. It came off an early corner kick attempt by Mireya Rojas, who assisted on both goals, both of which came on corners. The first time, Rojas put the ball on the far post, and Beck did the rest with a header over top of everyone for the quick lead.

The Pioneers settled in with that, and they didn't budge all game. Point Park was leading in shots, 7-2, by the half. A trend that continued for Point Park was to gain more and more control as the game wore on. The Pioneers increased things to a 13-2 advantage in shots in the second half.

After protecting the 1-0 lead for about 70 minutes, Point Park got more breathing room with another corner-kick goal. This time, Rojas connected with Holly Pascoe for the finish.

The final team stats showed Point Park well in front with 20 shots compared to three for Midway. The Pioneers had 11 shots on goal and a 7-1 lead in corner kicks to keep the pressure on.

The Pioneers continue their weekend with a Saturday night date versus IU East. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Highmark Stadium. The Red Wolves started their weekend with a 4-0 win at Carlow on Thursday afternoon with all four in the second half.
