Pioneers shut out LTU for first win

Box Score

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- Point Park University men's soccer put together its best game of the year so far in Sunday night's 2-0 victory at Lawrence Tech (Mich.). It was the Pioneers' first game of the LTU Blue Devil Classic, and it was also their first win of the year.

Point Park bounced back from earlier games that did not go their way to play solid throughout Sunday's contest. The Pioneers are now 1-3 on the year, and they look ahead to Monday's second game of the classic versus Taylor (Ind.). Kickoff is 2:00 p.m. ET.

Sunday's game was scoreless at the half with neither team registering a shot on goal the first 45 minutes. As the second half wore on, the Pioneers got their second big break of the game. The first was a second yellow that tunred into a red card forcing LTU to play a man down for the final 47 minutes. The second was Philipp Harder being taken down in the box in the 58th minute. He buried the PK for a 1-0 lead for Point Park.

The Pioneers took care of the lead before getting more breathing room from Harder. He ran under a curving pass from Lorenzo Diaz and knocked it in off the defense for a 2-0 lead with under 10 minutes left.

The defense continued to do what it had done all game, which was to pitch the shutout. Goalkeeper Max Davila made all three stops of the LTU shots on goal in the second half to register the win and the shutout.

The final shot total was 10-8 in favor of the Pioneers. LTU took four yellow cards and a red with Point Park clean with no cards all game.
