PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University women's soccer had to settle for a tie versus St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) College, 1-1, on Saturday from Highmark Stadium. It was a River States Conference matchup. 

Point Park is now 5-4-3 overall and 2-1-1 RSC after this weekend. The Pioneers were playing for the second time in less than 48 hours following Thursday evening's 2-0 loss to IU Kokomo. 

Coming off a game where they had a lot of shots but no goals, the Pioneers looked to turn that around versus St. Mary-of-the-Woods (2-4-4, 1-1-2). That looked promising with Vanessa Vazquez getting Point Park on the board early at the 7:42 of Saturday's game. 

Vazquez took a set-up pass from Mireya Rojas and fired a hard shot low and left in traffic to give the Pioneers early control. It was one of 13 shots for Point Park in the first half as the Pioneers led in shots 13-2 the first 45 minutes.

Point Park stayed in control but could not dent the scoreboard any further. It was an 8-1 shot advantage for the Pioneers the second half. Although the one for SMWC ended up making the difference.

In the only shot on goal for the Pomeroys on the day, Paige Chickadaunce scored an unassisted tally in the 63rd minute to tie things up. 

Point Park mounted 10 shots on goal for the game and led in total shots, 21-3.

Pomeroys' goalkeeper Kaylee Thaler had a big game making nine stops to secure the tie. Maggie Pappas in the first half and Ella Serlin in the second half split the goalkeeper duties for Point Park. 

Point Park will play at Ohio Christian in an RSC game on Thursday, Oct. 12 before returning home under the lights versus Shawnee State (Ohio) on Saturday, Oct. 14 for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff at Highmark Stadium.
