Box Score PITTSBURGH -- No. 2-seeded Point Park University rode a 2-0 halftime lead to a 3-1 victory over No. 7 seed Midway (Ky.) University in the River States Conference Women's Soccer Championship quarterfinals from Cupples Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 4.
The Pioneers (11-4-4, 7-1-2 RSC) advance to the semifinals at home on Wednesday, Nov. 8 versus No. 3 Rio Grande (Ohio). Kickoff will be 2:00 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
Point Park put the victory away within the first 10 minutes of the second half for a 3-0 lead. Midway scored its goal with 23 minutes left, but it was too late.
The Pioneers were in control with a 19-4 advantage in shots on the day. The usually strong Point Park defense allowed just two shots on goal and one corner kick across the 90 minutes.
Paula Sole had two goals for Point Park. The freshman from Valencia, Spain, increased her goal total to six on the year. She put the Pioneers in early control with a tally in the 15th minute. Later, she gained the brace in the 55th minute to put the game out of reach.
Holly Pascoe scored her 16th goal of the year and the 30th of her two-year career at Point Park to make the score 2-0 in the 25th minute.
With the win, Point Park moved to within one of the school record for wins in a single season. At 11-4-4 overall, the Pioneers can match the 2015 team that won 12 games with a victory over Rio Grande.
The Point Park-Rio Grande winner will move on to the RSC Championship finals Nov. 11. The highest-remaining seed with host. The other semifinal is No. 5 Shawnee State (Ohio) at No. 1 IU Kokomo on Nov. 8 at 7:00 p.m.
The RSC Championship winner will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship. The Pioneers are seeking their third national bid and the first since 2016.
