Box Score CHICAGO -- Point Park University women's soccer is coming back from Chicago with a tie. The Pioneers tied at St. Xavier (Ill.), 0-0, on Thursday from Beaton Field.
The NAIA non-conference matchup had the Pioneers (1-1-1) with a slight edge in shots, 9-8, over the unbeaten Cougars (2-0-1). But neither team could get on the board with a combined six shots on goal between the teams.
"A really solid performance by the team today, especially in defense and in the build up," said Point Park head coach Kelly Raddar. "We are creating more chances in the attacking third than before, although finishing and creative shots on frame remain our Achilles heel at this time."
Six different Point Park players had a shot with Vanessa Vazquez getting a team-high three shots with two on goal. The Pioneers got some corner kicks with four of their five coming in the second half.
The Point Park defense allowed just one corner kick and two shots on goal throughout the day. Maggie Pappas got the start in goal and made two saves in 90 minutes.
It was another strong defensive effort for Point Park, which now has two shutouts in its three games. The Pioneers have allowed just eight shots on goal in three games.
"We were clearly the more dominant team today," said Raddar. "Credit to SXU for getting numbers behind the ball every time we had the ball. One point on the road, missing key players and this time in the season is a decent result in this game."
Point Park will return home for its next few games starting Sept. 6 at home versus Walsh (Ohio). Kickoff is 5:00 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
