PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University women's soccer battled hard for a 1-1 draw versus NCAA Division II opponent Walsh (Ohio) University on Wednesday from Highmark Stadium. The Pioneers (1-1-2) have points in three of their four games thus far and held a 1-0 lead over unbeaten Walsh (2-0-1). 

The score was 0-0 at the half despite an 8-2 advantage in shots for the visiting Cavaliers. Point Park mounted 10 shots in the second half to make a charge. That included Holly Pascoe finding the back of the net at 68:01 for the game's first goal. 

Point Park goalkeeper Maggie Pappas, who had a career-high eight saves in her second start, began the scoring play with a punt that went well over the halfway line. Walsh initially won the ball, but it went right to Point Park's Lorena Montanes. She rocketed a pass up ahead to Pascoe, who out-raced the surprised defense for the goal. 

Eight minutes later, however, Walsh tied things up on Jill Wiersma's goal. It was a hard strike from just right of the box. The score stayed that way the rest of the way, although Point Park had some chances for the win coming in. The best one of those again involved Montanes pushing a pass ahead to Pascoe. Pascoe again beat the defense, but her shot hit the crossbar, came straight down and somehow stayed out of the net. 

It was another strong defensive effort for the Pioneers, who have given up just four goals in their four games. Walsh ended up with a 20-12 advantage in shots, but the Pioneers stood tall. 

Point Park will continue its games in Pittsburgh, although the next two are at AHN Montour Complex, the training facility of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds outside of town. The Pioneers play Mt. Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 12 p.m. and face Lourdes (Ohio) on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 4:00 p.m.
