BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Point Park checked-in at No. 7 in the Mountain East Conference Men's Basketball Preseason Poll, the league announced on Tuesday during the league's media day event at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling. Point Park received 44 points during preseason balloting.
The Pioneers are coming off a 30-3 campaign in 2024-25, which included a River States Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championship and a berth in the NAIA National Tournament.
Point Park lost its top three scorers from a season ago, but returns
Nathaniel Van (10.6 points, 5.5 reb.),
Nazareth Fisher (6.9 points, 8.2 reb.) and Jags Jahwar (6.1 points, 6.9 rebounds) in 2024-25. The Pioneers played the University of Pittsburgh in an exhibition last week and were led in scoring by transfers
Kaden Warner (13) and
Aiden Miller (10).
West Liberty topped the preseason men's basketball poll with 99 points and nine first-place votes. Fairmont State checked-in at No. 2 with 87 points and a first-place vote, while Charleston was third with a first-place vote and 81 points.
West Virginia State was fourth in preseason balloting with 72 points, followed by Concord (69), Glenville State (56) and Point Park (44). Davis & Elkins was eighth with 37 points, followed by Wheeling (29), Frostburg State (20) and West Virginia Wesleyan (11).
Point Park will open the 2024-25 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 9 against Manfield at the Ron Wilson Classic in Millersville, Pennsylvania. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
